A kit of the French AMX-13 DCA anti-aircraft system in 1:72 scale from ACE. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, as a plastic kit to be glued together and sprayed. In 1:72 scale it is a subject that appears on the market only rarely, the AMX-13 in the form of a light tank and in a larger scale being more usual.
The AMX-13 DCA was built on the chassis of the French AMX-13 light tank, one of the most widespread French postwar tracked vehicles. In place of the tank turret it received a rotating turret with a twin 30 mm cannon intended for destroying low-flying targets. At the rear of the turret it carried a housing with a radar for finding and tracking targets, which could be folded down for travel; it is that which gives the vehicle its characteristic silhouette. The system served in the French army as mobile anti-aircraft protection for armored units and stayed in service for several decades before more modern systems replaced it.
Try the parts dry first, because kits of this type usually need a little fitting and the removal of flash. Finish and paint the running gear and the tracks before you close the hull and fit the turret, as you will no longer be able to reach them once it is assembled. Clean up the gun barrels and drill out the muzzles if you can, which markedly lifts the impression of the model. After the base color comes a thin gloss coat under the decals, then a wash in the pressings and finally a dry brush on the edges. Use dust pigments on the underside of the hull and on the tracks, because a mobile anti-aircraft system operated off the road.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
