A decal sheet in 1:72 scale from the British brand Xtradecal for models of the twin-engined Bristol Beaufighter in the Mk.VI and TF.Mk.X versions. The addition to the name refers to the characteristic rounded radome on the tip of the fuselage, which for its shape was called the thimble nose. The package holds printed decals only, and neither plastic parts nor a kit are part of it. The particular machines are stated on the box.
The Beaufighter was a British twin-engined aircraft with a crew of two, derived from the same maker's Beaufort torpedo bomber. Strong gun armament made it a versatile machine for night and heavy fighter duties and for attacks on targets over the sea. The TF.Mk.X version was adapted to carry a torpedo and to work over coastal waters; it was on this version that the radome mentioned appeared. The robust structure and good range of the type suited long flights over the open sea.
Sheets for British machines of this period contain, besides the large national insignia, a quantity of small lettering and technical markings. These are easily lost, so work over a light surface, with sharp tweezers and preferably with a magnifier. Soak a small decal on a dampened square of paper rather than directly in the dish, otherwise it will vanish on the surface of the water. Carry it to the spot on the tip of a damp brush and fine-tune the position while there is still water under it. Once the model has dried, the small lettering is brought out only by the final unifying varnish.
The package contains decals only. The kit, paints, varnishes and softeners are not part of it.
