About product

German Panzerjacke turret crew 1:35 — resin figures for a turret

Resin figures in 1:35 from the figure line of the maker PANZER ART. It is not a vehicle kit but a crew intended for turret hatches — that is an add-on that is fitted into an already built model. The name states that the poses are carried out for the turrets of the Pz. III and Pz. IV tanks; with other types it is therefore always necessary to try the hatch dry.

Execution. The clothing is the so-called Panzerjacke (short tanker jacket) — the short jacket of tank crews with a slanted fastening and without long skirts. For a modeler a particular painting task follows from that: a small area of cloth, a pronounced line of the fastening and a collar that dominates the upper outline of the figure. That is exactly why these figures are worth painting before they are fitted into a hatch, while they are still accessible from every side.

Building and painting tips

Wash the castings in lukewarm water with dish soap, separate the casting blocks with a saw or a knife and sand the faces down wet with your airways protected. Glue with super glue (cyanoacrylate). With figures for a hatch, try the seating dry first — the lower edge usually has to be adjusted so that the figure sits in the opening at a natural height and neither hangs above it nor sinks into it.

Painting a dark jacket. Dark clothing is the hardest painting task of the whole figure. Never use pure black as the base — the area will then swallow all the detail. Proceed from a very dark gray with a hint of blue or brown, lighten the edges and the folds by two or three steps and on the contrary leave the shadow only in the deepest places. Handle the contrast with light rather than by adding black. Build the skin separately, from a base tone through glazing to the details of the face. At the end bring the whole figure together with a matte clear coat and leave only the metal details semi-matte.

Who the figures are for

  • For builders of tank models in 1:35 who want to fill an empty hatch
  • For those who have the model built and are now looking only for a crew
  • For more experienced modelers — resin and painting dark clothing both call for practice
  • For builders of dioramas where a crew is necessary for the scene to read

The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

According to the name the poses are carried out for the turrets of the Pz. III and Pz. IV. With other types, try the seating dry, as the hatches differ in both dimensions and shape.

The words turret crew mean a multi-figure crew. Check the exact number on the box of the set.

Do not start from pure black. Use a very dark gray as the base, lighten the edges and the folds and leave the shadow only in the deepest places.

Yes. Ordinary cement for plastic does not bite into resin and the joint would not hold. Use cyanoacrylate and degrease the joint beforehand.
