This photo-etched detail set in 1:35 scale from the Polish brand Aber is not a standalone model but an accessory for raising the detail of the outer parts of the German Sturmtiger heavy assault vehicle (the 38 cm RW61 rocket launcher). This is the first part, aimed at the exterior; the interior is covered by the companion set. It adds fine metal elements that injection-molded plastic cannot capture faithfully.

The real subject

The Sturmtiger was a German heavy assault vehicle of the Second World War built on the chassis of the Tiger I tank. It carried a massive 38 cm rocket launcher intended to destroy fortifications and buildings in urban fighting. Only a small number were built, and its heavy silhouette is among the most striking of any vehicle of its day.

Building and painting tips

Separate the parts carefully with a sharp blade, form the bends under a rule or on a bending tool and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue. Spray the fine photo-etched elements with a primer; the detail will come out with a wash in the recesses and a light dusting of pigments.
