A set of photo-etched parts in 1:72 scale intended to add to a plastic model of the Bf 109 G-6. It is not a kit — the model is obtained separately. At this scale photo-etched parts are used where injection-molded plastic is necessarily too thick: the instrument panel, the seat with its harness, the stiffeners and frames in the cockpit, radiator grilles, small covers and fittings. The particular contents of the sheet and the number of parts are shown by the illustration of the set; compare the contents with it and with the kit you are building.
The Bf 109 G-6 was the most numerously built version of the German single-engine Bf 109 fighter. It was marked out by a DB 605 series engine, the fairings over the weapons in the upper fuselage and a wide range of factory and field modifications — from different canopies through differing vertical tail surfaces to underwing stores. That is exactly why machines of the same designation visibly differ from one another and why detailing is rewarding on them: most of the differences lie in small things that photo-etched parts cover well.
Separate the parts with a scalpel on a hard surface and make the folds in a bending tool or between two blades. Degrease the sheet before gluing and glue with cyanoacrylate, preferably a slower-setting type that lets you adjust the part. A primer is essential on bare metal, otherwise the paint flakes off. First cut away the parts of the model that the photo-etched part replaces and level the surface. In the cockpit it is practical to fit and paint the photo-etched parts before closing the fuselage — after that you will not get to them.
This is an accessory set, not a model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
