The injection-molded plastic kit from the manufacturer Dragon in 1:35 scale captures an unusual field modification: a turret from the Pz.Kpfw.IV Ausf.H medium tank was seated on the hull of the Bergepanther recovery vehicle, and a command vehicle was thus created. The model uses quality parts from the earlier Panther and Panzer IV kits. The package contains plastic sprues, accessories and decals. The kit is intended for more experienced modelers and for collectors of exceptional variants of German hardware.
The Bergepanther was a recovery tank built on the proven chassis of the Panther and served for towing damaged vehicles off the battlefield. In one case the heavy tank destroyer battalion s.Pz.Abt.653 fitted an early Bergepanther hull with a fixed turret from the Panzer IV Ausf.H with a dummy barrel. The space freed up inside the turret served for radio sets and maps, so the vehicle became an improvised command tank. It was a one-off field modification, which makes it an interesting subject for collectors.
Assemble and paint the running gear before closing the hull up. Glue the parts with liquid cement for plastic and the fine accessories with cyanoacrylate. For an even camouflage, an airbrush and a light base are ideal. Refine the patina with a dark wash in the engraved lines and with dust and mud pigments on the running gear and the lower areas of the hull.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
