The set replaces the simplified armament from the box and in 1:72 scale takes the level of detail where injection-molded plastic cannot reach.

The real subject

The .30 caliber Browning aviation machine guns were used in two basic installations. The fixed version was built permanently into the structure and pointed forward; the flexible version sat on a rotating mount and was worked by a gunner, which is why it had grips, a rest and a ring sight. The weapon itself stayed the same; what changed was the hardware around it. Compare the exact shape of the installation with a period photograph of the particular machine before building.

Building and painting tips

Wash and degrease the resin before gluing. The thin barrels are the most vulnerable part; separate them last and handle them with smooth-jawed tweezers. Make the joint with a drop of cyanoacrylate glue and use an accelerator sparingly so that it does not whiten the surface. Metallic shades look better on a smooth surface, so start with primer. At the end a very thin wash into the recesses and a matte sealing coat help, so that the metal does not look like plastic.
