About product

USS Cole DDG-67 (1:350, Trumpeter)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the American guided missile destroyer USS Cole (DDG-67) in 1:350 scale from the manufacturer Trumpeter. Cole belongs to the first production batch (Flight I) of the Arleigh Burke class destroyers, for which the earlier form of the 127 mm gun mount and the absence of a helicopter hangar are typical. The kit offers a split hull for building a full-hull model as well as a waterline version, and the package usually also holds photo-etched parts for fine items such as the railings. Check the exact contents of the package and the part count against the manufacturer's part number for this item.

The real subject

Arleigh Burke is the most widespread class of guided missile destroyers of the US Navy, built around the Aegis combat system with a powerful radar and vertical launch silos for guided missiles. USS Cole bears the name of Marine Corps sergeant Darrell S. Cole. The ship went into history with the attack by a suicide boat in the Yemeni port of Aden in October 2000, after which she was expensively repaired and returned to service.

Building and painting tips

Decide beforehand whether you are building a full-hull model on a stand or a waterline version. Paint the deck and the superstructure in detail before the final assembly, and glue the fine photo-etched railings and antennas with cyanoacrylate glue. Tie the hull and the superstructure together with a primer and spray with an airbrush in shades of naval gray; bring out the panel lines and the detail with a dark wash and add a reasonable amount of weathering.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of modern warships and of US Navy equipment
  • Anyone interested in Arleigh Burke class destroyers and the Aegis system
  • Modelers with experience of building ships in 1:350 scale
  • Fans of naval subjects who will appreciate working with photo-etched parts and railings

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
