A figure set in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Strelets-R with the subject of the Roman army of the late Republic in combat. It is an addition for dioramas and display case scenes, not a kit of hardware.
The Roman army of the late Republic rested on a combination of firm formation, discipline and uniform armament, that is, on exactly what shows best in a figure scene en masse. An individual is less important in such a composition than the whole: what decides is the rhythm of repeated shapes, an unbroken line of shields and the uniform angle of the weapons. A set with combat poses gives suitable material for that, because the characters are not static and the scene gains direction and movement.
Before you start gluing, lay the arrangement out dry and look for a common axis of movement, so that the scene works as one whole and not as a random group. The shields are the visual focal point: paint them separately, over the whole area and without patches, and suggest any devices with a thin brush only after the base has dried. Keep the metal parts dark and matte and apply highlights only to the edges. The standard preparation holds here as well: deburr the parting lines, apply primer for the sake of adhesion on soft plastic, lay the base, draw a wash in and lift the edges with an almost dry brush. Glue the bases with cyanoacrylate.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints, bases and terrain material are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
