The Daimler-Benz DB 601 was a German aircraft engine of the Second World War period: a liquid-cooled V12 installed in an inverted position, that is with the cylinders pointing downward. It was precisely to this arrangement that aircraft with the DB 601 owed the slender shape of their nose. The engine powered, among others, the fighters of the first half of the war.
An accessory set with the DB 601 engine in 1:72 scale, intended for working up the engine compartment of a model. It comes into its own on models built with the engine exposed or with the covers removed, or as a stand-alone detail for a diorama of a field base. The parts are not polystyrene, so cement for polystyrene has no effect on them; they are glued with cyanoacrylate glue. Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the rest away carefully, so that the mating surface stays flat. Before painting, wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent and degrease them, otherwise the paint will not take hold. The engine is painted in parts before assembly, because once glued a brush will not get into the recesses. On a finished engine a careful pick-out of the edges and fine soiling stand out, separating the cylinder blocks from the plumbing and the accessories.
The set suits modelers who build German aircraft in 1:72 scale and want to show the engine, as well as builders of dioramas with equipment under maintenance.
