This set is a detail accessory, not a stand-alone aircraft kit. It holds resin parts for the open bay of the Super Hornet's nose gun, an area that plastic kits in the small scales usually render only in simplified form or fully closed. CMK is a Czech accessory brand that has long specialized in resin interiors and engine and gun bays. The castings have a fine surface texture and crisp edges that are hard to achieve by injection molding at such a small scale. The number of parts and the contents list are stated on the box.
The F/A-18E/F Super Hornet is a twin-engine carrier-borne multirole aircraft derived from the smaller F/A-18 Hornet, with a larger fuselage, a new wing and more powerful engines. In the nose ahead of the cockpit it carries a 20 mm multi-barrel cannon; its bay is often open during maintenance and is a rewarding subject for a modeling addition. The E suffix denotes the single-seat version, the F the two-seater.
Wash the parts first in lukewarm soapy water to remove any mold release residue — otherwise the paint will not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc rather than snapping them; sand wet and with respiratory protection. Glue resin with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue), as plastic cement has no effect on it. The opening in the nose of the model has to be cut out and the seating surfaces dry-fitted and cleaned up until the set drops in without pressure. Apply a primer before painting, paint the inside of the bay before you close it up and bring out the detail with a dark wash.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Check the fit with the kit you are building before you buy.
