Resin wheels for the Fairey Gannet in 1:72 scale, the late type with weighted tires and a checkerboard tread pattern. The accessory replaces the wheels from the plastic kit; there is no aircraft model in the package.

A resin set of wheels for a model of the British Fairey Gannet carrier aircraft in 1:72 scale. The box gives it for the late wheel type with tires whose tread is arranged in regular fields resembling a checkerboard. The tires are cast with the flattening at the point of contact with the ground. This is not an aircraft kit but an accessory for a kit you buy separately.
The Gannet was a British carrier-based machine built to find and destroy submarines, brought into service in the 1950s. Its peculiarity was a powerplant with two coupled turboprop units driving a pair of coaxial contra-rotating propellers. One unit could be shut down on long patrols and the aircraft flown economically on the other alone, which extended its endurance over the sea considerably. The same basis also gave rise to a variant for airborne early warning, conspicuous for the large radome under the fuselage.
Wash the castings with warm soapy water and cut the casting blocks off with a saw. Resin is glued with cyanoacrylate glue; the kind for plastic will not hold on it. The regular tread stands out if you rub a dark glaze into it after the base coat and then lighten the edges of the fields slightly with a dry brush. Separate the rim by masking. Carrier aircraft over the sea end up visibly dulled by salt and dust, so weathering on the wheels is entirely in place on this type.
This is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
