Eduard 1:72 FH-1 is a set of die-cut self-adhesive masks for the glazing of a model of the McDonnell FH-1 Phantom carrier-based jet fighter.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of self-adhesive masking templates from the Czech maker Eduard for a model of the American McDonnell FH-1 Phantom carrier-based jet fighter in 1:72 scale. The templates are cut exactly to the shape of the canopy frames, so the tedious measuring and cutting of masking tape is done away with. It is not a model of the aircraft but an accessory to a kit already bought.
The McDonnell FH-1 Phantom was the first purely jet-powered aircraft to take off from the deck of an aircraft carrier in the US Navy and to enter regular service. It was powered by a pair of small jet engines built directly into the wing roots, which gave it an unusually clean airframe with a short nose. It entered service shortly after the Second World War and its career was very short given the headlong development of jet technology; its significance, though, lies in being the direct predecessor of the considerably more successful Banshee and of the whole line of carrier aircraft from this maker. The machines wore a glossy dark blue naval finish, on which every imperfect paint transition shows up at once.
Wash and degrease the glazing first. Separate the parts with the tip of a scalpel and move them with tweezers; lay them on dry, align them with the frame and only then press them down with a toothpick. The glossy dark finish of the subject calls for a smooth base, so apply a primer before painting and spray in thin coats. Remove the mask shortly after it has dried, while the paint film is flexible, and soften the resulting edge by polishing if necessary. Any glue residue can be removed with a cotton swab moistened in alcohol.
It is an accessory, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
