The late forms of the British interceptor

The last production versions of the delta fighter were no longer merely a partial improvement. The fifth variant received a further supply of fuel in the wing, which lengthened the time on patrol, and the seventh brought a substantially more powerful engine and armament with guided missiles. The machines thus moved from a night interceptor toward a full-fledged missile fighter. It is precisely this stage that the decal sheet maps.

Eleven airplanes and their markings

The range is unusually wide. There are machines of home bases, an example listed as the only one of its kind with its squadron, an airplane of an operational training unit, an example of a formation deployed in West Germany and machines of a school focused on all-weather fighting. The description with one of the options points out the lengthened cannon barrels, with another a roundel moved rearward, with a further one silver intakes. One airplane carries the cross of St Andrew with a black outline on the fin, another a black and red checkered panel.

On the execution of the model

Eleven subjects mean that you will have a choice a second and a third time too. The color combinations moreover differ markedly between the individual squadrons, so two finished replicas side by side will not look the same. Lay the decals on a gloss layer and settle the markings on the fin dry before you stick them down for good.

Only the sheet is part of the delivery. Obtain the kit and paints separately. Given the number of subjects, it pays to store the sheet in a dark wrapping after the first option has been cut off, because printing fades in the light over time.
