A short-run injection-molded plastic kit of the British Gloster Meteor Mk.4 jet aircraft in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Special Hobby. The World Speed Record edition focuses on the machines that went after the world speed record. The package contains plastic parts, a clear canopy, small photo-etched parts and decals for the record aircraft. It is a limited mold, suitable rather for more experienced modelers.
The Gloster Meteor was the first British jet fighter put into service. The postwar Mk.4 version received more powerful engines and modified wings. It was with modified Meteors that the British High Speed Flight went after the world speed record: in November 1945 a Meteor passed the mark of 975 km/h, and less than a year later the record was pushed past 991 km/h. These were peak demonstrations of early jet flying.
Glue the parts with liquid cement for plastic, the small photo-etched parts with super glue, and sand the seams carefully. Assemble the cockpit before closing up the fuselage. The record machines carried striking color schemes, so apply the paints with an airbrush onto a smoothly sanded and primed surface. Apply the decals over a gloss clear coat and finish the model with a varnish matching the real subject.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
