A resin accessory from the Reskit brand with which you replace the engine exhaust nozzles on a model of the Grumman F-14D Tomcat carrier-borne fighter in 1:72 scale. The version is closed, that is with the petals drawn in. It is not a kit of the aircraft: the base plastic model is bought separately. The castings have thin walls and fine definition of the petals, which injection-molded plastic in this scale does not reach.
The Tomcat was a two-seat carrier-borne fighter with a variable-geometry wing, operated from aircraft carriers. The F-14D version got General Electric F110-GE-400 engines and modernized equipment. The tail end of the aircraft is one of the places where the versions are easiest to tell apart, and the position of the nozzle petals moreover differs with the situation: a model of a machine parked on the deck therefore looks different from an aircraft caught in flight. The closed position suits dioramas and static scenes in particular.
Wash the castings in lukewarm water with detergent, so that no mold release agent is left on them. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw, level the surface by wet sanding and protect your airways. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue; cement for plastic will not help. Try the parts dry first and adjust the mating surface of the fuselage. After the primer apply metallic shades in thin layers, bring the edges of the petals out with a dry brush and let a dark wash into the recesses: on a closed nozzle it is above all the structure of the outer petals that stands out.
This is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a model in its own right. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Check the fit with your kit before buying.
