This item is a sheet of decals for 1:72 scale, that is, an accessory for a model, not a kit. The Hungarian brand HAD models issued it for the late production version of the Soviet Ilyushin Il-10 ground-attack aircraft and marked it as part one. A following part two exists with a part number of its own; the two sheets make a pair, but each is usable on its own. The small 1:72 scale means small designs and thin film, so preparing the surface is crucial with this sheet.
The Il-10 was a Soviet ground-attack aircraft carrying on the concept of the armored Il-2. Against its predecessor it had an all-metal and aerodynamically cleaner structure and a more powerful engine, which told in both speed and handling. The crew consisted of a pilot and a rear gunner protecting the rear hemisphere. The late production series differed in changes to the armament and in details of the airframe. The type served with a number of states after the war and was license-built in Czechoslovakia too, so it is a rewarding subject for collectors of Central and Eastern European aircraft.
First coat the model with gloss varnish and let it cure properly — hurrying this step is the commonest cause of silvering. Use lukewarm water, not hot; hot water softens the film too much and it ripples during the transfer. Work on one design at a time and wipe the tweezers between pieces, so that residues of adhesive from the paper do not stick to them. With small stars and numbers in 1:72 scale it is better to seat a decal straight in the right place than to move it across the surface. Once it is dry, check the edges against the light and go over any silvery rim with softener. Lay the final varnish on in thin coats.
