A model of the F-4 Phantom II aircraft in 1:72 scale in the final color scheme of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F-4 Phantom II is an American two-seat twin-engine combat aircraft, one of the most widespread machines of its generation. It was built in many versions and served with a number of states outside the United States, among them the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, where for decades it was the backbone of the fighter force. It is characterized by a bent wing with upturned outer panels, drooping horizontal tail surfaces and massive air intakes at the sides of the fuselage.
The model is tied to the final finish of a particular Japanese machine, that is to an elaborate color execution from the end of its service. Such finishes differ from ordinary gray camouflage in their striking decoration and tend to be popular with collectors and modelers, because they turn a finished model into an eye-catching piece for a display case.
With striking color schemes it pays to work carefully from the surface up: wash and degrease the areas before painting and lay down an even base, so that the shades do not show through anywhere. Varnish the place under the decals with a gloss clear coat, otherwise air is trapped under the film and the edges will silver. The exact order of the colors and the placing of the markings are given by the manufacturer's instructions.
The 1:72 scale is rewarding for a collection, because a finished piece takes up little room in a display case and yet, on an aircraft the size of the Phantom, enough room is left for detail. It will be appreciated by modelers interested in Japanese aviation and by those building a parade of color executions of a single type.
Paints, glue, thinner and the other material needed for the build are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
