About product

Jetstream 31 British Aerospace 1:72 (Amodel)

A plastic kit of the British Jetstream 31 regional airliner in 1:72 from the Ukrainian firm Amodel. In the package are injection-molded plastic frets, clear glazing parts and a sheet of decals. Amodel uses short-run technology: the parts have heavier gates, the joints have no locating pins and they are tuned by sanding. It is thanks to that, though, that modelers get hold of civilian machines the large manufacturers do not make in this scale. A model of an airliner also has one speciality: a long slender fuselage and a smooth glossy surface will reveal every imperfection in the filling.

The real subject

The Jetstream 31 is a twin-engine turboprop aircraft for regional routes with a pressurized cabin, following on from the earlier Handley Page Jetstream type. British Aerospace put it into production in the 1980s, and the cabin seats roughly nineteen passengers. The machine made its name on short routes in Europe and North America, and it also flew in corporate and air taxi work and in several military and calibration roles. For modelers it is interesting for the wide palette of color schemes of regional carriers.

Building and painting tips

Try the parts dry, fill the fuselage joints and sand them carefully, as the glossy finish of an airliner hides very little. Mask the cabin and window glazing rather with pre-cut strips and glue them with a cement for clear parts that will not cloud the surface. Spray the white areas over a light primer, otherwise the white will go streaky. The decals of airline schemes are large and thin: apply them onto a gloss coat, use a decal softener and finish the surface with a gloss or semi-matte coat to suit the real subject.

Who the model is for

  • collectors of civilian and transport aircraft in 1:72
  • modelers of turboprop regional machines
  • more experienced builders who do not mind a short-run kit
  • anyone who wants a model with the option of various carrier color schemes

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

A twin-engine turboprop regional airliner with a pressurized cabin for roughly nineteen passengers, following on from the earlier Handley Page Jetstream type.

Rather not. Short-run technology and the glossy surface of an airliner make demands on filling and sanding. A more experienced modeler will manage it without trouble, though.

They are not. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, and paints, glue and accessories have to be obtained separately.

A sheet of decals is part of the package. The instructions in the package state the particular marking schemes.
