An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale from the Japanese maker Fujimi. The subject is a high-mobility light cross-country vehicle that the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force uses as a universal liaison, reconnaissance and transport means. This is a model of the vehicle in its own right, not an accessory for another kit.
The vehicle came about as a Japanese counterpart of the light cross-country cars that in the 1990s replaced the older jeep designs. Characteristic is the wide, low-set body with all-wheel drive, with an open as well as a covered version of the rear and the ability to carry personnel or light armament. In the service of the Japanese ground forces it fills a whole range of roles from carrying people through towing light loads to acting as an equipment carrier, and it can be seen with contingents sent on missions abroad as well. For a modeler it is a rewarding subject: simple in shape, but with a clear modern character and a silhouette that reads well even in a small scale.
A model in 1:72 stands or falls with the cleanness of the work. Use thin cement for plastic applied with a fine brush, sand the parting lines on the body down with fine paper and go over the engraving if need be. It is more convenient to paint the interior and the frame before closing the body up. Apply a filler primer before painting, so that the two-tone camouflage holds and does not peel off during masking. Sharp transitions in the camouflage are achieved with masking tape, softer ones by spraying freehand at low pressure. At the end a dark wash in the shadows and a light dust pigment on the underside of the vehicle and the wheels will help. Apply the decals onto a glossy base and fix them with a flat clear coat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
