The designation in the name states that the set covers all versions of the type. Photo-etched parts are thin metal pressings that in a small scale replace the areas which can only be made in a simplified way in injection-molded plastic. To use it you need a model of the aircraft bought separately.
The Ki-51 was a Japanese single-engined low-wing aircraft with a two-seat cockpit and fixed landing gear in aerodynamic fairings, used for the direct support of ground units and for reconnaissance. The structure was deliberately simple and rugged, with good takeoff qualities from improvised strips. In 1:72 scale the model is small and its final impression stands or falls on exactly the fine elements, such as the instrument panels, the seatbelts, the grilles and the thin sheet-metal parts the photo-etched set is aimed at.
Cut the parts off the fret with a sharp knife on a firm surface, never with nippers, which will bend the metal. Make the bends in a bending tool or on the edge of a hard steel blade, and work gradually. Degrease the metal before painting and apply a primer meant for metal, or the paint will not hold on the smooth surface. They are glued with super glue applied in a minimum amount, best with the tip of a wire, so that the glue does not run over into the surroundings. Seatbelts in photo-etched metal take on a credible shape when you bend and wave them slightly before gluing. Work over a mat with a raised edge, as small parts are easily lost.
