Montex 1:72 Ki-61-II Hien - a set of die-cut self-adhesive masks for a clean spray finish on the canopy and the wheels of this Japanese Kawasaki fighter in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
Die-cut self-adhesive Montex masks for a model of the Japanese fighter Kawasaki Ki-61-II Hien in 1:72 scale. The templates cover the framing of the canopy and the wheels of the undercarriage, that is the areas where masking by hand goes wrong most easily. The application is fast: you transfer the mask to the model, press the edges down, spray, and once it is off a perfectly sharp line remains. The set is cut for a particular kit, so check compatibility with another one beforehand.
The Kawasaki Ki-61 Hien was the only Japanese fighter of the Second World War built in series with a liquid-cooled V engine, derived from a license for the German DB 601. The Ki-61-II version represented a development stage with a more powerful Ha-140 engine and reworked areas of the airframe, aimed at better performance at great heights. Trouble with engine deliveries led to a whole row of finished airframes remaining without a power unit - the well-known Ki-100 later came about by converting them to a radial engine. The slender silhouette of the Hien with its long nose is one of the most elegant among the Japanese machines.
Degrease the model before application, transfer the masks with tweezers and burnish the edges down thoroughly. Spray several light layers instead of one saturated one - you will lower the risk of paint running underneath and of a step in the paint. Take the masks off at a sharp angle while the paint is not yet fully cured. The circular templates for the wheels will keep a clean division between the tire and the rim.
This is a masking accessory - the kit of the aircraft is not included in the package.
