An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale from PM Model. The subject is the F-35A, that is, the version for conventional takeoff and landing from a runway. The boxing comes with Turkish markings; anyone who wants to build a particular machine after a real subject should compare the chosen scheme with the reference available to them before building. The number of parts and the extent of the decal sheet are given on the packaging.
The F-35A is a single-engine combat aircraft of the newest generation with one seat. The shape of the airframe is subordinated to reducing radar reflectivity: the edges run in parallel directions, the covers fit flush and the main armament is carried inside fuselage weapons bays so that the surface is not disturbed. Version A takes off and lands conventionally from a runway, unlike the other two versions of the program, which are intended for short takeoff with vertical landing and for operation from aircraft carriers. The surface of the aircraft is made up of shades of gray with fine differences in sheen between the individual panels.
A model of this type stands or falls on the cleanliness of the surface: fill and sand the fuselage joints so that they cannot be seen, because flat gray areas emphasize every unevenness. Restore the engraved lines after sanding with a scribing tool. Keep the camouflage finish restrained, as fine variations of shade and a differing sheen on individual areas look truer than strong panel highlighting. Choose very gentle weathering; heavy streaking and rust do not belong here. The clear canopy is tinted on the real machine; if you decide to tint it, apply the tint in thin layers from the outside and keep checking the shade against the light.
