This is a masking set from Artillery models intended for a model of the experimental X-35B airplane in 1:72 scale, not the model itself. The masks cover the glazing of the cockpit canopy so that it stays clean while spraying and so that the frames come out with sharp edges. In a small scale it is precisely the cockpit framing that decides the final impression a model makes. The exact contents of the package are stated on the packaging of the set.
The X-35 was a demonstrator built as part of the program to develop a joint strike fighter, which at the turn of the millennium compared two competing concepts. The machine had a single-engine layout, internal carriage of its load and shaping that reduced its radar signature. The X-35B version was intended to prove short takeoff and vertical landing: the powerplant was supplemented by a lift fan behind the cockpit, driven by a shaft from the main engine, and the exhaust nozzle could be swiveled downward. The trials of the demonstrator led to the choice of the concept from which the production type emerged.
Degrease the surface of the model before masking and let it dry perfectly. Lift the individual pieces off with tweezers or the tip of a scalpel and stick them exactly into the frame, pressing the edges down with a toothpick. Lay the paint on in thin coats, so that no step forms on the edges. Remove the mask shortly after the paint has set, pulling it down at an angle. Protect the rest of the glazing that the mask does not cover with liquid mask or with paper card.
The package holds the masking set only. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
