A set of painting masks, Luftwaffe Balkenkreuze Early – Part I in 1:72 scale, from the brand Armycast for applying the early German cross national markings directly in paint.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of precisely cut self-adhesive masks for spraying the early variants of the German national crosses (Balkenkreuz) onto models of Luftwaffe aircraft in 1:72 scale. With the masks you apply the crosses directly in paint: you lay the mask on, spray the individual color layers with an airbrush, and once it is removed you get sharply defined markings with no carrier film. The Part I designation suggests that this is the first volume of a series that can be rounded out with the sets that follow.
The Balkenkreuz went through a development during the war. The early rendering had a prominent solid black arm with a broad white outline; as time went on the crosses were simplified into outline variants. The exact rendering differed according to the period, the type of aircraft and the position on the airframe.
Spray the crosses in layers — first the light (white) base, and once it has dried the black fill. Press the edges of the mask down thoroughly, so that paint does not creep under them. Painted markings take weathering better and do not create a silvering effect on a matte finish.
This is a separate set of masks. The models, paints and an airbrush are not included in the package.
