An unassembled plastic kit of the American combination for transporting heavy armored hardware. According to the name the package takes in both the M1070 tractor and the M1000 lowbed semi-trailer, so what comes out of it is a complete transporter, not just the vehicle on its own. In 1:72 scale it is a long model, which shows to advantage on a base or in a diorama with a tank being loaded.
The M1070 is a heavy truck tractor of the US Army with drive to all axles and a roomy cab for the crew and for relief drivers. Paired with the M1000 semi-trailer it makes up the combination designated by the abbreviation HET, that is, a heavy equipment transporter. The task of the combination is to move main battle tanks and other heavy vehicles by road over long distances — tracked hardware is thereby spared, because driving under its own power wears out both the tracks and the drive train. The M1000 semi-trailer has a large number of axles and wheels in order to spread the weight of the load, and it is loaded over folding ramps at the rear.
With a combination with many wheels it pays to paint the wheels and the running gear separately and to fit them at the very end. The semi-trailer has a long straight frame, so glue it on a flat surface and watch that it does not come out twisted — on a long model every deviation is visible. Spray the cab and the frame with an airbrush, so that the paint gets into the divided-up places as well. The weathering can be restrained: a dark wash in the engravings, dust on the lower parts and light traces of service on the ramps and the deck. If you are planning a load, reckon with a stable base.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
