An injection-molded plastic kit of the American M2A2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicle in 1:72 scale from Dragon. The model captures the version fitted with reactive armor, that is an array of armor tiles attached to the sides of the hull and to the turret. The smaller scale makes the kit a rewarding project for one or two evenings and at the same time a vehicle that fits easily into a display case or into a diorama with a road or urban scene.
The Bradley is an American tracked infantry fighting vehicle introduced in the 1980s. Compared with the older versions, the M2A2 brought thicker armor and with it a higher combat weight. The basic armament consists of an automatic cannon in a two-man turret together with a coaxial machine gun and a launcher for antitank guided missiles, while an infantry squad is carried in the hull. Reactive armor is add-on protection fitted to the vehicles as a particular deployment requires; it changes the silhouette markedly and is the most striking feature of this very version.
In 1:72 scale the parts are small, so it pays to cut them off with an etched knife or thin nippers and to clean them with a fine-grit file. Finish the running gear and the sides of the hull before you fit the reactive armor tiles — once they are glued on, the lower part is hard to reach. Apply a primer before painting, then break the uniform green or desert shade up with a lighter tint on the upper surfaces. Bring out the engraving and the gaps between the tiles with a thin wash, and add dust pigments to the running gear and the lower hull.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
