The extended version of the mask set for the model of the experimental jet airplane X-32 in 1:72 scale. Compared with the basic set it holds more masking elements. It serves purely for painting the model; it is neither a kit nor a spare part.

When you do not want to finish anything off with a brush

You will appreciate the extended extent the moment the cockpit frames are not enough for you and you want crisp edges in other places on the model as well. In 1:72 scale masking small shapes by hand is demanding and retouching with a brush tends to show — a brush stroke has a different texture from a sprayed surface. Pre-cut film removes that compromise and keeps the same quality of surface everywhere.

Practical advice on the airbrush

Masked areas call for low pressure and a smaller amount of paint. Higher pressure drives the paint under the edge of the film, and thick paint forms a ridge at the edge that you can feel with a fingernail once the mask is off. Several mistings with a short pause between them are ideal. Hold the nozzle at a regular distance and do not stop over the mask; carry the overspray smoothly across the whole part. Once the work is done, let the model rest and take the masks off while the paint is still flexible.
