The set from the manufacturer New Ware in 1:72 scale is one of the aftermarket accessories for painting. It holds machine-cut self-adhesive masks that are applied to the model and protect the areas that are to stay free of paint. The EXPERT designation means the widest extent within this mask range — compared with the basic step it covers more parts of the model. The outlines are designed for the Italeri, Revell or Tamiya kit, so the masks match the shape of the parts.
The X-35 was an American technology demonstrator from the Joint Strike Fighter program. It served to verify the design solution and became the starting point for the production machine. For modelers it is interesting for its smooth surface with a minimum of panels — the crisp transitions between colors that a mask makes possible stand out all the more on it.
Apply the masks only onto a degreased and dry surface. Work from the largest parts to the smallest and press every mask down properly once it is seated, especially in the corners. With a multi-color scheme always spray from the lightest shade to the darkest and let the paint set thoroughly between the individual steps. Hold the airbrush perpendicular to the surface, not at an angle — an angled stream pushes the paint under the edge of the mask. Remove adhesive residue after taking the masks off by wiping lightly with a soft cloth, and on the glazing without solvents.
This is a stand-alone mask set. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
