An injection-molded plastic kit of the German Messerschmitt Bf 109F-4 fighter in tropical configuration (Trop) in 1:72 scale from the Japanese manufacturer FineMolds. This manufacturer's Bf 109 kits are highly valued among modelers for the accuracy of their shapes and their fine engraving. The package offers decals for several aircraft flown by Hans-Joachim Marseille in North Africa in 1942.
The Bf 109F, nicknamed Friedrich, was the aerodynamically refined version of the famous German fighter, with rounder shapes to the wing and the engine cowling. The Trop tropical configuration was recognizable by the dust filter on the intake, which protected the engine from sand during take-off and landing in desert conditions. It was on this type that Hans-Joachim Marseille, nicknamed the Star of Africa, scored most of his victories in the fighting over North Africa.
Work with liquid cement for plastic and finish and paint the cockpit before the fuselage is closed. Apply a primer before varnishing; an airbrush is ideal. On desert aircraft a combination of a sand upper color and a light blue underside works well, complemented by discreet weathering and chipping where the walkways are. Cut the small parts off carefully, as the engraving is fine.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
