Armycast MiG-21bis Exterior Set in 1:72 scale

A set of exterior resin details from Armycast for models of the MiG-21bis fighter. Exterior sets add the small items on the surface of the airframe that tend to be simplified in an injection mold or missing altogether — typically covers, sensors, antennas and other fit. The package is not an airplane kit; it is an accessory for a model you already have.

The real subject

The bis version closed the MiG-21 development line and differed from the older machines not only in its powerplant but also in a number of external features. The enlarged dorsal spine, differently placed sensors and additional antennas are exactly the details by which the version can be told on a model. The aircraft was built in large numbers and served with dozens of users, and the individual batches differed in small ways on the surface of the airframe.

Building and painting tips

Cut the small parts off only at the moment of use and work over a mat with a raised edge. Note the positions in advance from the drawing, because resin cannot easily be repositioned. Once they are glued, sand the whole area with very fine paper and spray a base coat so that the transition between the plastic and the resin disappears. Fit the antennas and thin bumps only after the camouflage has been sprayed, otherwise they will break off during handling.
