This conversion set in modeling resin is intended for rebuilding a plastic MiG-25 kit in 1:72 scale into the reconnaissance version. It is not a complete model: the set replaces those parts of the airframe in which the reconnaissance variant differs from the fighter, and it assumes you already have the base kit. Working with it is more demanding than an ordinary build, because besides gluing you also have to cut and sand plastic parts.
The MiG-25 was a Soviet twin-engined aircraft designed for high speeds and great altitudes, with a characteristically boxy fuselage and twin vertical tails. The reconnaissance version came about by modifying the forward section: instead of the equipment of the fighter variant it carried reconnaissance equipment, which showed in a different nose shape and in the arrangement of the windows. Machines of this type flew at great altitudes at speeds the defenses of the day found hard to counter, and operating them was demanding on both the engines and the structure.
First try dry exactly where the cut into the plastic runs; a thin saw or a knife and several shallow passes rather than one deep one work well. Wash the resin parts in warm soapy water and cut the casting blocks off with a saw. Glue the transition between resin and plastic with cyanoacrylate, fill the joint with filler and sand it wet so that no step is left on the smooth fuselage. Before painting, spray the whole joint with primer and check it against the light. Metallic shades on the engine section go on better over a smooth, clean base, so leave them until the end, when you will no longer be sanding.
The set is a conversion for a plastic kit, not a complete model. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; glue and paints are not included in the package.
