This resin set from Reskit replaces the plastic wheels on a model of the North American T-28 Trojan trainer in 1:72 scale. The name gives the type of aircraft generally as the T-28 and specifies only the naval form of the wheels. Because the same range also offers an item expressly intended for the C and D versions, we recommend comparing the shape of the wheels in the photograph with the subversion you are building before buying. In 1:72 scale resin wheels pay off, because a fine tread pattern can hardly be cast into injection-molded plastic at such a small size.
The North American T-28 Trojan is an American piston-engine trainer with a radial engine, a roomy tandem cockpit and a nose wheel. It appeared in several forms that differed in engine, propeller and equipment. The naval versions were adapted for the conditions of carrier training, where the loads on the landing gear during touchdown are considerably higher than in land-based operations. The type served for many decades and still flies in private hands today.
Cut the small parts off with a saw over a surface with a raised edge, so that a wheel does not get lost. True the contact face with a couple of passes over fine abrasive paper; in this scale very little is needed. Wash the set in lukewarm water with detergent, let it dry and spray it with primer. For gluing, use cyanoacrylate applied with a wire, as a drop from the tube would flood a small wheel. Choose a dark gray shade for the tire, as pure black in a small scale takes away from credibility. The hub is then enough to pick out carefully with a fine-tipped brush; masking is needlessly complicated on a part this small.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
