About product

Masking set 1:72 North American T-6 Texan, Peewit

This item is a modeling accessory, not a kit. The set from the Peewit brand in 1:72 scale holds pre-shaped self-adhesive masks that are stuck onto the glazing and other surfaces that are to stay free of paint before spraying. Once the spraying is done the masks are taken off and a clean surface with a crisp edge is left underneath.

The real subject

The North American T-6 Texan was an American advanced trainer, a two-seat all-metal low-wing aircraft with retractable landing gear and a Pratt & Whitney R-1340 Wasp radial engine. It was created as a transitional machine between simple school aircraft and high-performance combat types and was built in large numbers. With the US Navy it appeared under the designation SNJ, in Commonwealth countries as the Harvard. A number of machines stayed in service long after production ended, and the Texan is still a frequent participant at air shows today. A long greenhouse canopy with many frames is a characteristic feature.

Usage tips

Wash and degrease the glazing before sticking the masks on, otherwise they may not hold. Work with tweezers and press each mask down all the way around once it is in place. On a heavily framed canopy it pays to stick them on gradually and keep checking the gaps. Apply the paint in thin layers, so that no thick edge forms through which the mask would tear while being peeled off. Spray the frames in the interior shade first. Trainers often carried striking yellow or silver schemes, where a good undercoat pays off, because yellow covers poorly.

Who the set is for

  • modelers building the T-6 Texan in 1:72 scale
  • anyone interested in trainers and their striking color schemes
  • builders who want crisp frames without cutting tape by hand
  • anyone who wants to speed up the preparation of a model for the airbrush

This is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The plastic model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. We recommend checking the fit with your kit before buying.

FAQ

It is not. This is a masking set only. The kit, paints and glue have to be bought separately.

They are designations of the same type in different countries, but the individual batches differed. Choose the masks according to the name that matches your kit.

The number of masks is stated on the box.

Yes. Working with ready-made masks is simpler and quicker than cutting tape by hand; tweezers and patience are enough.
