The R-98T AA-3B Anab missile in 1:48 scale from Plusmodel — a resin casting of the infrared-guided Soviet air-to-air missile, the second half of the typical load of stores of Su-15 interceptors.
Responsibility details are not available.
A resin miniature of the Soviet R-98T guided missile (NATO code AA-3B Anab) in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer Plusmodel. It is an accessory of aircraft armament, not a stand-alone model of an aircraft. The heat-guided version complements the radar R-98R into the authentic pair that Su-15 interceptors carried.
The R-98 came about in the 1960s as an improvement of the R-8 missile for the Su-15 interceptor, one of the pillars of the Soviet air defense. The R-98T version carried an infrared seeker head: after launch it homed passively on the heat emission of the engines of the target and needed no further illumination by the radar of the carrier. That is exactly why Soviet tactics prescribed a mixed load of stores: a radar missile under one wing and a heat-seeking one under the other gave the pilot the choice of homing according to the situation and to jamming. The R-98T can be told from the radar version by its rounded head with a sensor.
Wash the casting in warm soapy water, cut the casting blocks off and rub the surfaces down; protect your airways while sanding resin. Glue with cyanoacrylate and prime. Treat the face of the infrared head with a drop of gloss black and the body in light gray; careful lining up of the lifting and control surfaces will give the slender missile its edge.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
