A pair of Liberators of the 98th Bombardment Group on one sheet: the airframe listed under the names Grumpy and Hail Columbia and an aircraft with the art The Witch. Decals for the large 1:32 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The aircraft with serial number 41-11825, which bore the name Hail Columbia, is among the most quoted American bombers of the Mediterranean theater. It was this one that led its formation in the low level attack on the refineries in Romania in the summer of 1943, when the machines crossed the target at low altitude above the chimneys and under the fire of the defenses. The group commander received the highest American decoration for that flight. The machine also carries a second name, Grumpy, referring to the series of dwarf nicknames used in the same squadron.
Alongside it the sheet works up the aircraft 41-11840 with the art The Witch. It too flew in the same formation and from the same desert airfields, so the two sets of markings go well together if you are building a pair of models from one unit. The chosen name is the only thing that visually sets the two airframes apart, because they had the tactical markings of the squadron in common.
Besides a kit in 1:32 size you will need gloss varnish as a base, a dish of lukewarm water, a soft brush and matte varnish at the end. A decal softener is not necessary, but on broken areas around the windows and turrets it helps a great deal. Large pieces of lettering are better transferred in one go rather than divided; a join would be noticeable on the fuselage.
