SX-Art masking stencils for the J-31 in 1:72 scale

Self-adhesive masking stencils from the manufacturer SX-Art for a model of the J-31 aircraft in 1:72 scale. The product is not a kit and not a set of parts but an aid to painting a finished model. A stencil is stuck to spraying that has matured, a further color is oversprayed over it and once it is taken off a precisely bounded motif remains directly in the layer of paint, with no glossy edge of carrier film and with no risk of silvering.

The J-31, also given as the FC-31, is a Chinese twin-engine fighter designed with a view to reducing radar reflectivity. It has angular leading shapes, internal arrangement of armament and a pair of canted vertical tails. The surface is smooth and with a minimum of protrusions, so sprayed markings look more natural on it than a layer of decal.

Use

• Let the base paint mature perfectly; with acrylics preferably for several days.
• Lay the stencil in place and press it down along its whole edge, so that the edge seats.
• Apply the paint with an airbrush in thin coats at a right angle to the surface.
• Take the stencil off shortly after the paint has set, while the film is not yet completely hard.
• Seal the spraying with a varnish compatible with the paint used, and only then go on with patina.
