This is a small ship fitting, not a ship kit. A railing stanchion is set into the deck or into the edge of the hull and carries the horizontal wire or line of the railing. This type has two holes one above the other, so it carries two rows of railing wire. The height given is 34 mm and there are three pieces in the package. The material, the surface finish and the diameter of the holes are stated on the packaging of the accessory.
Railings are among the details that reveal the quality of a ship model the most. Series-made fittings keep a uniform shape and spacing of the holes, which is hard to achieve by hand. Stanchions are used on decks, bridges and stairways, or as a replacement for the parts from the ordinary contents of a kit which do not suit you in size. Since it is a separate accessory, it also suits builds from your own documentation or repairs to older models.
First mark out the spacing of the stanchions on the deck and pre-drill the holes, so that they all stand at right angles and in the same line. It helps to make a simple template from a strip of card. Glue the stanchions with super glue or epoxy; on a wooden deck even PVA glue is enough when the hole is a tight fit. Degrease the parts before gluing, otherwise neither the paint nor the glue will hold on them. Thread the railing wire through only once the glue has dried and tension it gradually from one end, not from the middle. If you are going to paint the stanchions, use a primer for metal surfaces, otherwise the coat will rub off.
The accessory is supplied unpainted, without glue and without wire. It is not a ship kit, but individual fittings.
