A decal sheet in 1:72 scale from the Swedish maker Maestro Models. It offers a striking shark mouth motif for the nose of the Swedish SAAB A32A Lansen attack aircraft. It is not a kit nor a model, but an accessory for modelers that turns an ordinary machine into a conspicuous piece of a collection.
The SAAB 32 Lansen is a two-seat Swedish jet aircraft of the 1950s with a swept wing and a crew in tandem. The A32A version was the attack and ground-attack one, with armament carried under the wing and on the fuselage. A painted shark mouth on the nose is among the oldest and most widespread unofficial artistic motifs of military aviation, and it stands out particularly well on the long, low-set nose of the Lansen.
The motif on the nose is the most visible thing on the whole model, so take care over the base. Smooth the area, coat it with gloss clear and let it dry, ideally overnight. Trim the film of the decal as close to the motif as possible, because a transparent edge would create a visible rim on a colored finish. The nose is curved in two directions, so place the decal on a drop of water and shape it gradually with a soft brush. Apply the decal softener in sections and then do not move the decal; a softened film is delicate and tears easily. Once it has dried, check whether bubbles are forming in the recesses and if so, pierce them with the tip of a scalpel and go over them with decal softener again. Finally even the surface out with a clear coat matching the character of the finish.
