Soviet Early Red Stars Part I 1:72 is a set of self-adhesive masks for spraying early Soviet red stars with no edging. The first part of a series and an accessory for painting, not a kit.

A set of cut self-adhesive stencils from the Czech manufacturer Armycast for aircraft models in 1:72 scale. It serves for spraying the Soviet red star in the early pattern, that is, in the form with no edging, and is the first part of this section of the series. The package holds neither decals nor parts of a model — only masks, through which the insignia is sprayed in paint straight onto finished paintwork.
The red five-pointed star was the national insignia of the Soviet Air Force from the interwar period. In its early form it was a plain solid star with no outline of any kind, applied to the fuselage and to the surfaces of the wings. Only during the Second World War did the variants with a white or yellow edging come to the fore, and at the end of the war the combination with a thin red line as well. The set is therefore aimed at older machines and at the period before outlined insignia were introduced. Check the particular size and placement of the star against the documentation for the aircraft you are building.
A star has sharp inner angles in which paint creeps under most easily. Before spraying, press the edges of the mask down carefully with a blunt tool and pay particular attention to the points and the valleys. Apply the paint straight down from above, in thin coats and at lower pressure. A single-color insignia with no edging is sprayed in one go, which is considerably quicker than with the outlined variants. Take the mask off with tweezers while the paint has not fully cured, and then unify the surface with a final varnish.
The package holds masks only. The model, paints and glue are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
