An injection-molded kit of this British fighter in 1:72 scale from the Czech manufacturer in Prostejov. This boxing concentrates on machines with the unmistakable two-tone finish of the undersurfaces, which was worn only for a short time at the beginning of the war. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The designation in the name refers to the recognition scheme on the underside of the airframe, where the aircraft had one wing painted black and the other white. It served for the quick identification of friendly machines by ground defenses and by the crews of other aircraft at a time when more reliable procedures were not yet in place. The scheme was used briefly and during 1940 it was replaced by a uniform light shade on the undersurfaces, so machines with this camouflage make up a fairly narrow window in time. The Mk.Ia sub-version itself represents the early configuration of the type: machine gun armament in the wings, a Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engine, a low canopy and a smooth cowling without the later bulges. The combination of an early version and an unusual finish makes this boxing a rewarding item for a display case, because it differs from ordinary Spitfires at first glance.
The two-tone underside makes heavy demands on masking. Spray the light half first, let it cure properly and only then mask it and add the dark one. Run the boundary as the instructions show and press the mask down along its whole length so that paint does not creep underneath. Finish the cockpit before you close the fuselage, and mask and fit the canopy only after the camouflage has been sprayed. Go over the surface with gloss varnish before the decals and even it out with matte varnish once they are dry. Dry-fit the parts, because short-run plastic sometimes needs a little fettling.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
