An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale from the Czech brand Kovozavody Prostejov. The subtitle Silver wings refers to the postwar era, when British fighters laid their wartime camouflage aside and flew in an all-metal, or rather a silver-painted finish. It is exactly in this that this boxing differs from the other releases of the same molds. The particular contents of the package, the number of parts and the number of marking schemes are stated on the packaging of the kit.
The Tempest was a development of the Typhoon and was given a new wing with a thin laminar profile, which markedly improved its behavior at high speeds. The Mk.VI variant, redesignated after the war as the F.6, was tropicalized: it had reworked cooling for operation in a hot climate. In the postwar service of the Royal Air Force (RAF) these machines were used mainly in the Middle East, before jet types took their place. A silver scheme without wartime camouflage is characteristic of this stage and makes high demands on the surface of a model.
Assemble the kit with dry checks as you go; on short-run production it pays off to tune the mating surfaces by sanding while still before gluing. Glue with a thin capillary cement for polystyrene and finish the cockpit before closing the fuselage up. The preparation of the surface is the key thing, as with silver and metallic shades every unsanded seam and every scratch shows up far more than under matte camouflage. Lay down a smooth primer, polish it with a fine abrasive and only then spray. A metallic paint has to be mixed thoroughly before spraying, as the pigment settles to the bottom; it is laid on in thin coats and only at the close of the build, because it is harder to overspray and to mask.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
