An injection-molded plastic kit of the twin-engined Vickers Valetta transport in its basic C Mk.1 version, in 1:72 scale. It is made by the Czech firm Valom, which has long devoted itself to short-run kits of types the big makers pass over. The Valetta is among the larger twin-engined models in this scale and, once finished, it makes a strong impression in a display case. The Vickers Valetta was a military transport aircraft derived from the Vickers Viking airliner. It was powered by a pair of Bristol Hercules radial engines, had classic tailwheel landing gear and a strengthened floor with large cargo doors on the port side. The C Mk.1 version was the basic transport variant intended for carrying personnel and cargo, for paratroop drops and for supply drops. The machines served mainly in the 1950s and flew over the Middle East, the Mediterranean and southeast Asia, where their ability to operate from simple field strips was valued.
With a large twin-engined aircraft it pays to give attention to setting the dihedral and the alignment of the nacelles accurately, so glue the parts gradually and keep checking the symmetry. Short-run plastic usually has no locating pins, so dry-fit everything you can. On models of this bulk, weight usually needs to be added forward in the fuselage depending on the type of landing gear; check this during the dry fit. A high gloss on metal areas and silver surfaces is best handled with an airbrush and a smooth base, while matte upper camouflage forgives more. Mask the glazing of the cockpit and the cabin windows before spraying.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
