Decals with a fine wood grain for aircraft models in 1:72 scale. The package holds two A5 sheets with a dark wood texture.
Responsibility details are not available.
The airframes of First World War aircraft were built on plywood and on thin veneer, whose grain showed through even under the finish. Imitating it with paint means working hair by hair, and the result still tends to be unconvincing, because real wood has an irregular grain with growth rings of varying density. This sheet gets around the problem: the texture is printed on decal film, so the whole area transfers onto the model at once, natural grain and all.
The version with the fine grain is meant for small areas, where a coarse structure would look out of place. In 1:72 scale that goes double, because the fuselage of a biplane is barely a few centimeters long. It can be used on the covering, on propellers, on the cockpit floor or on the wooden parts of vehicles and dioramas. The shade matches a darker wood.
First give the area a smooth gloss base, ideally in a light yellow tone, which lends the grain depth. Cut off a piece of film a little larger than you need, soak it and transfer it to the model. While it is damp it can be drawn over a curved surface. Once it has dried, trim the surplus along the edge with a scalpel. The final coloring is tuned with a glaze of oil paints, brushed over the dried film and blended away.
Two A5 sheets give enough material for several models. Paints, varnishes and a kit are not included in the package. It pays to keep the offcuts: on the next build they will turn into floor boarding, a crate or a wooden part of a base.
