An injection-molded plastic kit of the German Sd.Kfz. 247 command armored vehicle in the Ausf. B version. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The number of parts, the make-up of the sprues and the contents of the decal sheet are given in the instructions supplied with the kit.
The Sd.Kfz. 247 was a light armored car built on a standard army chassis and intended for the staffs of reconnaissance and motorized units. The Ausf. B version used a four-wheel driven chassis and an open body with sloping armor plates, which gave the crew a good view out while still offering basic protection against splinters and small-arms fire. The vehicle was not a fighting machine in the proper sense - it had no turret, and its task was to carry a command group and its signals equipment to the unit. Fairly few were built, so it is a type that turns up on display tables only rarely.
The open body is the main theme of the build: the interior, the seats and the instrument panel stay in view, so finish them before you close the model up. The sloping armor plates are rewarding for smooth camouflage transitions sprayed with an airbrush - and it is on them that a carefully sanded seam shows. Use a thin plastic cement, apply a primer before painting and tune the finished model with a dark wash into the engraved lines and dust pigments on the suspension and the fenders.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
