The 1:12 scale is the established standard for motorcycles, so the model fits in well among other two-wheeled subjects in a display case. Aoshima offers several versions of the same machine differing in year and color version, so go by the exact designation and year when choosing.
The RG250 Gamma was a quarter-liter sports motorcycle built on the pattern of road racing machines. It was powered by a liquid-cooled two-stroke twin, and the machine made its name above all with an aluminum frame, which in this class of series-produced motorcycles appeared among the first. The combination of low weight, a rigid frame and a lively two-stroke engine made it the benchmark of its class and a subject that collectors gladly return to even decades later. Also characteristic is the full fairing with its low screen.
A motorcycle is built on the contrast of surfaces, so plan in advance what will be gloss, what matte and what metallic. Assemble and paint the frame and engine separately, and the fairing only at the end. Sand and polish the parting lines on the fairing, apply primer and spray the color with an airbrush in thin coats. Apply the sponsor decals and stripes onto a gloss base, settle them with a decal softener and clear-coat them so that their edges disappear. The exhausts, the brake discs and the suspension springs come alive after a light accenting with metallic shades and a dark wash. Leave the tires matte so that they do not compete with the gloss of the bodywork.
