An injection-molded plastic kit of the British transport aircraft Bristol Type 170 in the Mk.31 version, in 1:72 scale from the maker FLY. Thanks to its span and its tall fuselage the model has real presence in a display case, and among fighters and bombers it comes as a welcome change. The finished piece also looks good on a diorama with cargo, equipment or cars in the same scale.
The Bristol Type 170 was a twin-engine high-wing monoplane with fixed landing gear designed to carry bulky loads. Its hallmark is the pair of opening nose doors through which cargo was loaded straight into the fuselage, so in its day the aircraft found work carrying cars across the sea, among other things. The Mk.31 version is one of the later variants of the line, with a revised tail surface. Besides civilian carriers, the machines also served with military operators.
Before you start gluing, try the parts dry and mark out the seams in advance, because on models with large fuselage surfaces every inaccuracy shows. Mask the canopy glazing and paint it together with the fuselage so that the frames line up. The large flat surfaces of the wing and the fuselage call for an airbrush and for a good base coat; a gloss finish on a civilian scheme will forgive only a perfectly sanded base. Apply the decals onto a gloss base and settle them with a decal softener so that they do not silver.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
