Walls and Floors - Ceramic Tiles A is a diorama accessory in 1:35 scale. It is neither a kit nor a part for a vehicle but a printed tiling pattern that turns a bare base or the wall of a mockup into a tiled surface. The pattern is drawn for 1:35 scale, so the size of the tiles matches the figures and the equipment in the same scene.
A tiled surface immediately tells you what kind of space it is. It suits the interiors of dwelling houses, kitchens and bathrooms, corridors and staircases, shops and the large halls of railway stations and hospitals. It shows to best advantage in a shot-up building where the open floor is visible from the street and the floor forms the basis of the whole composition. In a diorama with vehicles it works as a contrast: a regular grid against irregular rubble and damaged brickwork emphasizes the scale of the scene and gives it depth.
The base has to be flat and free of grains, otherwise every unevenness prints through the thin sheet. Trace the outline from the floor plan first and only then cut along the joints with a sharp scalpel, so that the lines of the grid line up with the edges of the room. Depending on the format, the sheet is either glued down flat with PVA glue and weighted until dry, or applied as a decal onto a smooth base. It is worth darkening the cut edges with a dark pigment so that they do not shine. A light wash into the joints, a matte coat at the end and a few cracks or missing pieces where vehicles have passed will add credibility.
