Excel Assorted Blades for K1, a set of 5 spare blades

A set of spare blades from the American maker Excel. The package contains five blades in various shapes (hence assorted, a mixed set), so you have a tool at hand for fine cuts as well as for rougher cleaning up. The blades are of carbon steel with an edge ground on both sides and a thin protective film of oil against corrosion; they fit the K1 handle and other standard light modeling handles. It is not a knife, these are spare blades and the handle itself is not included in the package.

Use: why it pays to have several shapes

• The pointed blade, the main shape for a modeler: fine cuts, removing parts from the sprue, cutting masks, decals and films, piercing and cleaning small holes.
• The rounded (curved) blade, ideal for scraping and cleaning up mold seams: you hold the blade perpendicular and scrape the flash away instead of gouging into the plastic with a point.
• The chisel blade, for leveling surfaces, cutting away lugs and sprue gate remnants and for cutting small openings with a straight edge.
• The stencil blade, for cutting stencils, paper, card and thin plastic films.
• A dull blade does not cut plastic but pushes and tears, so it pays to change it before it damages a part. A set with more shapes solves that quickly.

Who the set is for

For everyone who builds plastic models or works with paper, balsa, film or foam materials and already owns the K1 handle (or another standard light handle). The set is practical as a top-up of the stock as well, since a modeling knife goes dull faster than most beginners expect, and a sharp blade is the foundation of a clean cut.

Safety: the blades are extremely sharp. Proceed carefully when changing them, hold the blade by the back, never press your fingers against the edge and always guide the knife away from your body. Store and dispose of unused and used blades safely (in a closed container, not loose in the bin). Keep out of the reach of children.
