Letters and Numbers 4 mm GOTHIC

Letters and Numbers 4 mm GOTHIC, an alphabet and numbers in a Gothic typeface

A set of letters and numbers from the maker Green Stuff World 4 mm tall, rendered in a Gothic typeface with ornamental strokes. It is neither a kit nor an accessory for a particular model: it is a means of getting text into a scene. And text changes a scene fundamentally, because a name on a gravestone, a number on a gate or the designation of a unit on a base give the whole a particular story that the terrain by itself does not convey.

Use

• Inscriptions on gravestones, monuments and stone tablets
• The designation of a unit or the name of a figure on a base
• Signs and shop signs on fantasy and historical buildings
• Small numbers and labels where there is no room for larger lettering

How to work with them

The height of 4 mm is the smallest of the whole line, so count on tweezers, good light and ideally a magnifier. First lay the inscription out dry on a piece of paper and measure the overall length, to see whether it will fit the area at all. Keep the spacing between the characters even and mark the baseline lightly with a pencil or masking tape, because an inscription seated crooked is the first thing anyone notices on a finished scene. A Gothic typeface has thin connecting strokes and a lot of detail that is easily filled with paint at this size, so apply opaque layers to it thinly. The particular procedure for fixing them follows the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging. Once dry, it is good to unify the inscription with its surroundings with a light dark glaze and a matte varnish, so that it does not come across as fresher than the surface it sits on.

Who the set is for

For builders of dioramas and scenic vignettes, for figure painters who label bases, and for wargaming players marking buildings and terrain features. A Gothic typeface suits medieval, darkly toned and fantasy scenery in particular.

Paints, glue and the model are not included in the package.
